The (not so) magic roundabout

The idea was simple. What if a dish of sunflower hearts were spinning rather than stationary? Surely then birds would hover over it while they figured out what was going on and they would be in the perfect position to capture in-flight shots!

A cheap motor off amazon, an old drill battery and some 3d-printed parts lead to this prototype:

This particular day was a bit overcast so the test images were very noisy. Anyway, does the image below prove that the feeder was a success?

Unfortunately, no, it doesn’t. The bullfinch soon figured out how to take full advantage!
